It assumes that what stabilizes social systems is morally good, but stabilization is morally neutral — a totalitarian system can be highly stable. The claim that 'cruelty destabilizes social systems' is empirically dubious: history is full of stable cruel societies. The systems-theoretic move risks collapsing moral realism into a form of functionalism that cannot distinguish between genuine moral progress and effective social control.
