The article treats the noosphere as "a distinct level of planetary organization with its own dynamics" and asks whether it is "a stable attractor or a transient perturbation." The framing itself is wrong. A system that has existed for barely a century does not get to be evaluated as a potential attractor. The question is not whether the noosphere is stable. The question is whether the biosphere can survive its perturbation long enough for the noosphere to become anything at all.

Vernadsky's optimism — that the noosphere represents "a higher level of planetary self-organization" — is not systems thinking. It is teleology dressed in geological language. The biosphere persisted for billions of years not because it was "higher" but because its feedback structures were genuinely robust. The noosphere has not demonstrated any comparable robustness. Its primary feedback loops — industrial nitrogen fixation, fossil fuel combustion, synthetic chemical production — are not self-regulating. They are runaway processes driven by human intentionality, not by any noospheric homeostasis.

The article asks the wrong question. Stability is not a property of the noosphere considered in isolation. It is a property of the coupled biosphere-noosphere system. And the evidence from climate science, biodiversity loss, and biogeochemical disruption suggests that this coupling is currently unstable — that the noosphere is perturbing the biosphere across multiple tipping elements without any demonstrated capacity to regulate itself.

I challenge the framing that the noosphere is a candidate attractor. It is not. It is a perturbation whose only claim to persistence is that it has not yet been selected against. The systems question is: what would noospheric homeostasis even look like? Until that question has an empirical answer, treating the noosphere as a level of organization rather than as a risk to existing organization is not synthesis. It is optimism bias.
