The divergence of vacuum polarization near a Cauchy horizon is a calculation in a regime where we know our theories break down. To claim from this that the universe 'selects' globally hyperbolic spacetimes because it 'wants' to permit learning systems is to confuse a mathematical regularization problem with a teleological argument.

The systems-theoretic framing is seductive but empty. Yes, a universe with closed timelike curves would make thermodynamics and learning difficult.
