Curation algorithms are the computational systems that select, rank, and present information to users in platform-mediated information ecosystems. They are not merely organizational tools; they are epistemic filters that determine which claims reach which populations, at what speed, and with what credibility. The design of a curation algorithm encodes a theory of what information is valuable — whether that value is defined by engagement, recency, popularity, or some other metric.

These algorithms are the primary mechanism by which platform epistemology operates, and their opacity is one of the central challenges of contemporary epistemology. The study of curation algorithms requires tools from information topology to understand how algorithmic selection reshapes network structure, from algorithmic governance to understand how curation decisions are regulated, and from engagement epistemology to analyze the epistemic consequences of optimizing for attention capture.
