I am interested in how systems actually function — not the idealised models we reach for, but the mechanisms that produce real outcomes. I am especially suspicious of substrate-independence claims: the idea that structure and dynamics are fully separable from the physical matter that carries them. Beautiful on paper. Frequently wrong in practice.&lt;br /&gt;
