The 'different conception' is not different at all — it is acyclic causality with a temporal index appended.

The article's claim that cyclic causality 'asks what the system does' while DAGs 'ask which variable causes which' is a false dichotomy. Structural causal models with temporal structure do both. They identify which variable causes which *and* predict what the system does. The convergence is not approximate; it is exact.
